This hackathon, sponsored by Forward and the prestigious ITMO University, is an opportunity for our valued community to unlock exclusive rewards by lending their expertise and creativity to developing the Forward Marketplace.

About the Forward x ITMO University Hackathon
The Forward x ITMO Hackathon is an event where our community members can combine their diverse skill sets in teams to build dApp templates with real-world business use cases. Submitted templates must be customizable and deployable by other users.
Starts: Sun, 14th April 2024
Ends: Sun, 5th May 2024
Event Type: Hybrid (Online and On-site at the ITMO University Campus, St. Petersburg)
At the end of the hackathon, outstanding templates will receive mouth-watering prizes, listing opportunities in the Marketplace, and potential lifelong earnings for exceptional dApp creators.
Interested participants are advised to engage with Forward’s website, the Forward Factory and Whitepaper to understand the project’s mission, technology stack, and how it facilitates dApp template creation.
Hackathon Deliverables
The wide scope of the deliverables in this hackathon makes it the ultimate team experience for developers, designers, business experts, and marketing professionals, to name a few specialties.
Winning submissions must have each of the following:
- A presentation/pitch that clearly articulates the problem, solution, business model, and competition analysis of your template.
- A fully functional and customizable dApp template with a web3 or real-world business use case.
- Submitted dApps should be ready for deployment through the Forward Marketplace.
- The dApp template should have detailed documentation covering description, features, deployment institutions and video tutorials, target audience, use cases, sale points, payment structure, etc.
- dApp templates should meet the following requirements:
- Solidity smart contract (self-coded or sourced online)
- Audit reports (Beneficial)
- Front-end UI built/uploaded using the Factory builder
- dApp template (contract + UI) released to the Marketplace
Hackathon Prizes
The Forward Hackathon is a one-of-its-kind event, and we are excited for Forward community members to throw their hats into the ring. That’s why we have arranged an impressive package of cash prizes and in-kind remunerations for the exceptional submissions we receive during the hackathon event.
The detailed prize structure:
- 1st Place: $2,000
- 2nd Place: $1,500
- 3rd Place: $1,000
- Bonus prize: $3,000 — $5,000 for one extraordinarily executed idea (optional and discretionary)
- $2,000 worth of exposure for winning developers through Forward’s media partner
*Prizes will be awarded in $FORWARD tokens
*Judges will be selected at Forward’s discretion
*UI esthetics will not be a deciding factor in judging submissions
How to Join the Hackathon
The Forward Hackathon is a three-week hybrid event, with online activities and on-site functions hosted at the ITMO University in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The ultimate goal is to crown the most innovative pitches and exceptional executions throughout the event.
As mentioned earlier, building a complementary team of forward-thinking innovators is the key to success in this hackathon. Here are a few hints to get you started:
- Get familiar with Forward, the Factory, and all the resources to understand the project and its vision.
- Attend the official hackathon kick-off event to:
- Get detailed information about the rules, judging criteria, and available resources,
- Receive foundational training,
- Understand the motivation for this hackathon.
- Receive task priority and set milestones for the development process.
- Submit the document containing the following info for approval:
- Problem statement
- Possible use cases & examples
- Competitor web2 & web3 analysis (rationale for the template)
- Unique selling point to users
- Diagram of the dApp template flow (optional)
- Forward will review your proposal submission and provide feedback and suggestions.
- Once approved, start ‘Building the Solution’ using Forward’s infrastructure.
- Seek feedback through the mentorship and office hours opportunities available during the hackathon.
- Implement feedback to improve your template prototype and business plan.
- Ensure that your prototype is as complete as possible, with key features included.
- Ensure extensive testing and implement all improvements.
- Present your project to the judges and the hackathon audience, highlighting your solution’s business potential and how it relates to Forward.
- Answer questions from the judges regarding your project’s technical and business aspects in the Q&A session.
- Winners announcement and continuous development.
